CCL takes top 4 spots in the Ohio High School Championship

April 24, 2021

Congratulations to CCL graduate Chris Shen for coming in clear first place in the Ohio HS Championship while CCLians Sean Jackson, Jason Wang, and Justin Storn finished a 1/2 point behind at 4 points.  The Columbus Academy team which had both Chris and Sean on it, was the top HS team.

The only one of the 4 Ohio Scholastic Championships that CCL did not win was Middle School Championship where Aniket Shetty came in clear 2nd place.  Alan Casden will also represent Ohio/CCL in the Seniors version of this event.  Of the 5 Champion of Champions events, CCL is in 4 of them.

The sleeping giant awakens

April 3, 2021

CCL is primarily geared to playing over-the-board chess.  So during the pandemic, we have had a relatively small footprint in  the chess world.  Now that OTB tournaments are starting to arrive again, we will make our presence felt again.  Most of our students have been quietly but conscientiously working on improving their game.  I am excited about CCL version 2, which should be coming to life over the next couple of months.

Dae San Kim with the 2020 CCL Chess Championship

August 22, 2020

Dae San Kim is the first CCL Champion!!

Dae San scored a perfect 5-0 score to win the 1st CCL Championship.  14 players participated in this event which included 2 experts and 3 class A players.  I have always been impressed with Dae San‘s ability, which this event further cemented in my mind.  Dhruti Shah came in clear 2nd place with a 4-1.  Dhruti has been playing very well the past 6 months.  In this tournament, she played 1 expert and 3 class A players, with her lone loss being to Dae San..  Many players had 3-2 scores.  Tournament results are at http://www.uschess.org/msa/XtblMain.php?202008223252-13758563.
