  • This Who’s Who chess list has been growing with great talent which is clearly characterized by a high value on perseverance, hard work, and passion.
  • What is a CCL graduate?  It is an honorary degree that we give to any CCL player who has worked their way through the ranks while in CCL and has made a USCF experts rating (>= 2000).   This group is becoming a who’s who of the top young talent around.  It entitles them to lifetime membership in CCL, based on good behavior, without the requirement of taking lessons (although most still do).  They are allowed to receive email spam from me for the rest of their lives!!

CCL finishes clear first in top sections at Gem City

June 8, 2015

Gem City 2015
Two Happy Campers Joe Kleban and IM Goran Vojinovic

While CCL Coach IM Goran Vojinovic was coming in clear first in the Open section of Gem City, student Joe Kleban took clear 1st in the Premier section.  For Goran, it was the usual domination of Ohio chess that we always see.  For Joe, it was a long overdue showing of his great chess talents.  We also saw a CCL future/current star when 3rd grader Jason Wang came in tied for 5th place in the Open section beating two former state champion in the process, USCF masters Carl Boor and John Bidwell.

After coming off of a National Elementary School Championship, where a last round win would have made him the US National Champion, Vincent left no doubt at the state level, sweeping the competition 5-0. Finishing in 4th - 7th places respectively were: Aristo Liu, Dakshin Pisini, Udbhav Raghukanth, and Cody Yang.

At the National Elementary School Championship (K-6), Vincent would have come in clear 1st place if he had won his last round game. However, losing to the National Champion, dropped him into a tie for 5th place.   Aristo Liu had a very strong performance, tying for 2nd place, while Ricky Wang and Jason Wang had strong 5-2 showing.  As a result of his performance, Jason become a USCF expert and a CCL graduate.

In the K-5 Championship, Chris Shen performed well, going 6-1 and tying for 4th place.  In the K-1 Championship, Kindergartner Grant Mu also finished 6-1 , finishing in a tie for 3rd place.  Many amazing results that shows that CCL is now a major power in chess on the national scene.
