Just as he has done so many times before, Coach Goran has won a major tournament in Ohio. He has clearly become the king of Ohio chess. He won $2188 for his efforts, beating out GM Gregory Kaidanov on tiebreaks. Walker Griggs finished in 6th place and took home $214. Luke Xie tied for 1st in the U-1900 section, bring home $750, not bad for a 5th grader! Also in the U-1900 strong 3.5 showings were provided by Noah Keating-Adams, Anagh Kulkarni and Vikram Srivastava. Om Borkar continued his winning ways by tying for 3rd with 4 points, taking home $214 in the U-1700 section. Also scoring 3.5 were Tim Goldenberg in the U-1700 section, Vincent Baker in the U-1500 section, and Sujan Rachuri in the U-1250 section. There was big surprise in the U-1000 section when Anagh’s dad, Nitin, coming in clear 1st place took home $714. Finishing tied for 2nd was Arvind Sai Prasad.
There are many CCL parents who are good chess players and are just hanging around the tournament. I would like to see more of you participating by playing along with your children. Joshua’s dad, Tony Qian, stepped up and played his first tournament at King’s Island. He finished with a plus score of 3 points.
