CCL Adds 2 High End Grandmasters to Coaching Staff

May 5, 2016

Ivanisevic,Ivan_2016_Karlsruhe.jpegMiloš_Perunović_2013Please welcome GM Milos Perunovic (left) and GM Ivan Ivanisevic (right) to CCL.

Both Milos and Ivan are rated around 2650 FIDE, which translate to about 2750 USCF.  They are not full time coaches but rather are professional chess players, who spend most of their time preparing for and playing in the chess circuit. Milos competed in the previous World Cup.  Thus scheduling lesson with them will be on an intermittent basis, when they have available time.  You are welcome to use them as a full time coach but I see their real value being for our higher rated players who want to work on a highly theoretical opening, system, or methodology.  Both Milos and Ivan have a very high theoretical understanding of chess.

We want to bring the very best to CCL, at every level, and that is what we feel that we are doing by integrating Milos and Ivan into our program.

CCL shows its mettle for the 2nd weekend in a row

April 24, 2016

Marissa Li wins the U-14 section of the National All-Girls Championship. Leading the field by a full point going into the last round. Our Chicago favorite sister, Marissa Li, easily sailed into a 1st place finish at this national championship.

Emma Cheng wins the U-10 section of the National All-Girls Championship. This championship for Emma came shortly after she tied for 1st in the All-Girls K-12 championship in Ohio. Leading the field by a 1/2 point with a perfect 5-0 score, Emma held to a draw with someone that was rated almost 400 points higher than her to clinch the title. There were 118 players in her section.  She also finished in 7th place in the Blitz tournament.

Maggie Feng sweeps that field at the Ohio High School Championship. Following last week's clear 1st place win at the National Junior High School Championship, Maggie won the Ohio High School Championship with a perfect 6-0 score.  Maggie has earned the right to represent Ohio at the National Denker Tournament this summer. I expect to watch Maggie compete in the U.S. Female National Championship next year.

Vincent Baker came in clear first place in the Ohio Middle School Championship. This has been a very successful year for Vincent who is also the current National 7th grade champion. CCL took the top 5 spots in this event with Vincent being followed by Chis Shen, Justin Storn, Luke Xie, and Jason Wang. Vincent has earned the right to represent Ohio at the National Barber Tournament this summer.

Maggie Makes Chess History, while CCL shines at Nationals

Maggie Makes History

CCL floats to the top at the National Junior High School Championships

Maggie Feng came in sole 1st place at the National Junior High, being the 1st female in US History to do so.  You can read the article on the USCF web site by clicking HERE.  In the article they discuss how Maggie is joining the company of Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura.  However, they forgot to mention fellow CCLian John Hughes and how CCL has won clear 1st place two of the last six years. Oh well, 'now you know the rest of the story'. We are so proud of all of you, with your amazing effort and dedication.  And I am also so proud of our coaching staff, always going the extra yard for our students.  I have never before been associated with such an amazing group of people.
